So.. I’ve got a handful of friends who paraglide.. Where you hang from a giant kite and try to “sail” across mountain ranges using thermals and gliding to keep you aloft. But apparently that’s passe, and terrain hugging “Speed Flying” has replaced it.. Ever seen a barrel roll 50ft off the ground inside a mountain couloir??

Fu#%ing Lunancy....
Side note— this guy Jamie Lee, is apparently an Ozone team member. (Ozone is one of the “bigger” paraglider wing manufacturers) A good friend of mine used to also be on the Ozone team. He lived in France with the other Ozone flyers at the Ozone HQ.
The company had an (apparently pretty sporty) Audi that the team members would use to get to the various competitions. And naturally, take a (usually pretty insane) paraglider test pilot, put him in an fast Audi, and then add in a roadtrip across the Alps; and you’ll get someone who drives like a maniac and scares the shit outta the other car passengers... it’s just gonna happen, no matter which team member happens to be in the driver’s seat at the time...
So my buddy, Carl, said they had to come up with a simple rule. The rule was that the driver can drive however he wants- but the driver is not allowed to wear his seatbelt... Haha....
Okay... in this video, look at, at the end of the video, how when the guy decides on his landing zone, how he just ditches probably a 1000 feet in elevation in a single spiral........

Amazing control!
I suppose that at THAT level of experience, you’re kind of using the wing to “grab” the air as if it were a solid object and hang onto it to propel yourself in different directions. Kind of like a monkey swinging through the trees.
(I know that’s a terribly un-scientific way of looking it, but the guy is clearly using the actual physics to his advantage.)
